Mere accepting Constitution is not nationalism: Ananth Kumar Hegade

Update: 2018-01-28 11:01 GMT

Bengaluru: Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegade who is known for his controversial statements of late, has  now made another remark.

Addressing the Republic Day function after unfurling the National tri-colour at the BJP office at Malleshwaram on Friday,  Ananth Kumar said "Mere saluting the national flag and  accepting  Constitution is insuffice.  Constitution is truly respected when   culture and traditions too are honoured."

" Some people do not accept my words. Everyone must realise facts instead of seeing  everything through coloured glasses," Hegade said.

"Many think that  we got freedom after British quit India. It is not the case. Coming out of slavery is true freedom.  Accepting Constitution alone is not  Nationalism. Everyone must respect  the culture of the land, one can find this only in BJP. Speaking about Constitution is useless unless one respects culture.  My statements are  made controversial, one has to be straight forward instead of making round about statements," he said.
