Shiroor: Green Valley National School & PU College celebrated a Green Fest Festival on 24th February 2018, Saturday to make our students aware of the environmental hazards and health problems that the youth face today.

As part of the British Council’s International School Award action plan, the school planned and executed programmes throughout the year  and this fest on 24th February 2018 was the culmination of all the activities held during the year.

With the theme 'Joining Forces for Nature', students of Grades, 8, 9 & 10’s were thoroughly involved with the fest. ‘Think Green’, ‘Act Green’, ‘Eat Green’, ‘Shop Green’, ‘Go Green’ were the slogans followed with the main objective of preserving our environment. Green Valley celebrated this ‘Go Green Day” with an array of events contributing to the need for a greener planet.

Throughout this year our environmental soldiers participated in eco-friendly activities doing every bit in ensuring that our planet continues to be a pristine place for us and our future generations to live in. Students took part in a myriad of ‘Go green’ activities.

Healthy eating, clean up drives, planting of saplings by the eco stewards in the school premises, poster making and painting competition depicting the theme 'Joining Forces for Nature' and morning assemblies advocating environmental issues were some of the events held during the year. Debates, essay writing competitions and speeches by environmental stewards kept the students busy throughout the academic year who were not only thinking green, but also acting green.

It was not only the students but also the parents who were equally involved in making this a completely a green year. Inter house blockbuster quiz based on the environment was conducted in the school, students were aware of the need to protect the depleting environment.

Students had a very informative talk on environmental issues that was given by NGO’s from FSL India. They were also engaged on talks about   saving the sea turtles and protecting them.

It is often said, “Action speaks louder than words”. This is what the students did by following the 3 R’s of the environment – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. They switched off the lights in classrooms and staffrooms whenever not required, stressing on the need to conserve energy.

Green Valley National School & PU College strongly believes that a big difference to the lives of the dwellers of this beautiful planet stems from the responsible thoughts and individual contributions of each one of us, every day in every way.
