Brother Donates Kidney To Sister On Women's Day

Mangalore: In a twist of tales, this International Women’s day which was also World Kidney Day a young man donated his kidney for his ailing sister who was suffering from chronic kidney disease. Every 2nd Thursday of March is celebrated as World Kidney day. This year the theme was Kidneys and Women’s health, since it was coinciding with International women’s day.

Invoking the spirit of World kidney day 2018, the kidney transplant team at Yenepoya Medical College, Deralakatte, Mangalore successfully conducted the transplant donated by brother to his sister. Mrs Shobha (name changed) was suffering from chronic kidney disease and was on dialysis since 6months. Her mother and father wanted to save her only daughter by donating their kidneys. But unfortunately, their health didn’t permit them to donate. That is when Mr Rajesh (name changed), her younger brother voluntarily chipped in to donate his kidneys. Post-surgery, both the donor and recipient are doing well.

Statistically, majority of organ donors are female. In this regard the transplant team comprising of Dr. Mujeeburahiman, Dr. Altaf Khan, Dr. Nischith Dsouza, Dr. Santhosh Pai, Dr. Karthik Ganesh, Dr. Shakthivel, Dr. Ganesh Kamath, Dr. Padmanabha Bhat, Dr. Ram Murthy and Dr. Thippeswamy salute the forward-thinking approach of the kidney donor and his family and hope that this ushers in a positive approach towards womens’s health and organ donation Mr Farhad Yenepoya ,  Finance Director , Yenpoya ( Deemed to be University )  helped the ailing family by reducing the cost to the minimum.
